How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.
